India won an epic contest against Afghanistan in the third and final T20I of the series on Tuesday, January 17, 2024. The match was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and saw India chase down a target of 170 with just two balls to spare.

Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a good start thanks to a half-century from opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz. However, the Indian bowlers fought back well and restricted Afghanistan to 169/6 in their 20 overs.

In reply, India lost wickets at regular intervals but kept up with the required run rate. Suryakumar Yadav was the star of the show for India, scoring a brilliant 61 off just 36 balls. His innings included four fours and four sixes.

With India needing 12 runs off the final over, Hardik Pandya hit a six off the first ball to bring the equation down to six runs off five balls. He then took a single off the next ball to give the strike to Umran Malik.

Malik hit a boundary off the third ball of the over to bring the equation down to four runs off three balls. He then took a single off the next ball to give the strike back to Pandya.

Pandya then hit a boundary off the fifth ball of the over to seal the victory for India. He remained unbeaten on 31 off 12 balls.

With this victory, India won the three-match T20I series 2-1. Afghanistan will be disappointed to have lost the series but will take heart from their performance in the third T20I.
